I first tried to make my own lens out of epoxy and then CNC cut a lens out of acrylic and polished it. After I had managed to make a working lens myself I started grinding more organic shapes out of the acrylic which eventually ended in the lens lamp. It is made out of a piece of acrylic which I shaped with an angle grinder and then sanded and polished. When placed in front of a lamp, water-like projections form on the surface below. A part of the light gets reflected back onto the ceiling and creates another pattern there.
The lens is hanging in a nylon macrame, so it can move slightly when hanging from the ceiling which brings the projection on the table or floor below to life and gives the lens an almost floating look.
