Cyanotats

The cyano tattoo workshop is a suggestion for the Rotterdam Photo Festival, a photo exhibition that takes place once per year showing contemporary photography. The customers can get a light print tattoo which will stay on for several days. A light pattern is projected with a distorted lens made of acrylic. A light-sensitive solution is applied to the arm of the visitors, which captures the projection as a tattoo and will stay on for a few days.

The cyano tattoos play with the definition of a photo as the visitors themselves become the canvas and the image is just an abstract beam of light. The process is based on cyanotype printing, an early photography technique.

While the visitors are waiting for their tattoos to develop they can sit in the sun and drink a coffee to take a break.
